Organisation Overview
Organisation summary
Mayesbrook Youth Project C.I.C. is an asset-locked Community Interest Company founded in 2016 and incorporated in March 2019, based in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. The organisation provides free, open-access weekly youth club sessions, trauma-informed one-to-one and small-group mentoring, detached street-based youth work, and school holiday enrichment programmes, supporting approximately 180 young people aged 11 to 17 annually (alongside around 140 parents, carers and siblings engaged through family drop-ins and showcases).
History and founding
Mayesbrook Youth Project began in the summer of 2016 as a volunteer-led detached youth work initiative. Two local youth workers (one of whom is now our Project Director) began running informal football, music and conversation sessions in Mayesbrook Park after noticing groups of 12-to-16-year-olds gathering on surrounding estates with nowhere safe to go following local authority youth centre closures. Between 2016 and 2018 the project operated as an unincorporated community group supported by small ward bursaries and volunteer time. In March 2019 it incorporated as a Community Interest Company limited by guarantee to employ sessional and part-time youth workers, sign formal community venue agreements, hold commissioned school referral partnerships and manage multi-year grant funding. In 2024 the organisation completed an independent youth work quality review, and in January 2025 it secured its first three-year core staffing grant covering 2025 to 2027.
